Biography

Born William Franklin Graham Jr., Billy grew up on a dairy farm. He committed his life to Christ at age 16 and went on to study at Florida Bible Institute and Wheaton College. Ordained in 1939, he soon began preaching across America and later worldwide. His first major crusade in Los Angeles in 1949 propelled him into national prominence.

Sermons & Crusades

Graham held over 400 crusades in 185 countries and territories. He preached to packed stadiums, emphasizing repentance, salvation through Christ, and the Bible’s authority. His radio program “Hour of Decision,” launched in 1950, ran for more than 60 years.

Advising Leaders

Billy Graham served as a spiritual advisor to numerous U.S. presidents, from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama. He met with world leaders and was known for keeping his message focused on Christ rather than politics.

Legacy

Through books, films, broadcasts, and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), Graham’s influence continues worldwide. His son, Franklin Graham, now leads BGEA and Samaritan’s Purse, continuing the mission of global evangelism.
